Calculators for marketing decisions

Enter your data to estimate reach, costs and payback. Open each calculation to review its formula and assumptions.

Awareness and reach

Who sees the message and how they respond

Reach from a budget

Estimate impressions and audience from CPM and average frequency

Estimated reach
111,111
Impressions
333,333
Cost per person reached
US$0.9
How it is calculated

Impressions = budget ÷ CPM × 1,000. Reach = impressions ÷ average frequency.

An estimate within one campaign. Combining platforms also requires audience deduplication.

Content response

Compare engagement and follows against reach

Actions ÷ reach · ERR
3.5 %
Follows ÷ reach
0.6 %
How it is calculated

ERR = interactions ÷ reach × 100%. Follow rate = new followers ÷ reach × 100%.

Interactions are not unique people. Compare matching formats and periods, and attribute follows to the measured content.

Acquisition and sales

How ad spend translates into leads and purchases

Budget to a purchase

Work backwards from customers to leads, clicks and spend

Ad spend
US$200,000
Clicks
5,000
Leads
250
Ad cost per customer
US$4,000
How it is calculated

Leads = customers ÷ lead-to-customer rate. Clicks = leads ÷ click-to-lead rate. Spend = clicks × CPC.

The scenario holds CPC and conversion rates constant. Re-estimate them from actual data when spend grows.

Acquisition cost

Compare click, lead and new-customer costs in one funnel

Cost per click · CPC
US$10
Cost per lead · CPL
US$200
Ad cost per customer
US$2,000
Click → customer
0.5 %
How it is calculated

Stage cost = ad spend ÷ actions at that stage. Conversion = customers ÷ clicks × 100%.

Use one cohort and a consistent attribution window. Full CAC also includes team, tools and sales costs.

Activation and retention

Where people lose product value and what brings them back

Cohort retention

See what share of a cohort returned in the chosen period

Return rate
35 %
Did not return in this period
650
Non-return rate
65 %
How it is calculated

Retention = returning users from the original cohort ÷ cohort size × 100%.

Define the return event and interval: day, week or month. Missing one interval does not imply permanent churn.

Reactivation economics

Estimate additional purchases and margin after campaign costs

Incremental customers
150
Incremental revenue
US$750,000
Margin less campaign costs
US$270,000
Cost per incremental customer
US$200
How it is calculated

Customers = segment × incremental conversion. Contribution = customers × revenue per customer × margin − campaign costs.

Estimate incremental conversion against a holdout. Purchases after a message alone do not establish campaign impact.

Economics and scenarios

What remains after costs and when a launch pays back

Advertising contribution

Separate revenue from margin and include campaign delivery costs

Margin less marketing costs
US$70,000
Revenue
US$500,000
Return on marketing costs · ROMI
53.8 %
Revenue ÷ ad spend · ROAS
5 ×
How it is calculated

Contribution = revenue × margin − ads − team and tools. ROMI = contribution ÷ total marketing costs × 100%. ROAS = revenue ÷ ad spend.

Use one cohort over an agreed period. This is marketing contribution after the entered costs; business profit requires all business costs.

Launch payback

Check investment payback under a constant monthly cash-flow scenario

Monthly cash surplus
US$50,000
Investment payback
6 mo
First-year surplus including launch
US$300,000
How it is calculated

Monthly surplus = customers × revenue per customer × margin − ads − other costs. Payback = initial investment ÷ positive monthly surplus.

Payback requires positive cash flow. The scenario holds months constant and excludes seasonality, growth and the time value of money.

Enter every amount in one currency. Changing the currency changes the label, without an exchange-rate conversion.
